Postcards from Barcelona

#31daysofMNB :: Barcelona

I don't even know where to begin with this incredibly crazy city!! Barcelona is so much fun- it is so colourful & lively. In Barcelona I met with Abbie's friend Clem who flew in from France and we had a whirlwind three days, spending time in Barcelona city visiting markets & cafes and then also heading up to Roses and Cadaques, a small beach town about two hours from Barcelona. It is also the home of Salvador Dali which was fascinating for me as I just love art and spent so much time throughout high school studying his works.

I found Barcelona really cheap and accessible. The metro is really easy to use and people are very friendly. There are some amazing salad buffets around the centre and lots of fresh juice and fruits everywhere you go.

I was really looking forward to visiting the markets on Las Ramblas in Barcelona and it truly lived up to every expectation. The markets are overflowing with fresh fruits and juices, lollies, vegetables, seafood, meat, dried fruits and nuts but their fruits section left me utterly speechless!! For a container of fruit it is 1-2 and the juices are about the same. It's super fresh and cheap and is such an incredible atmosphere to be in.

I've been feeling really unwell the past few days having picked up a sort of flu virus somewhere along my travels (boo!!) so have been stocking up on as much fresh food as I can. I had a lemon and lime juice and went back the next day to try the coconut and pineapple juice.

It is so easy to keep fit and active in a city like this as there are so many places to see and I think the easiest way to see the most of the city is by foot. I did a walking tour of the city which was so much fun  and a great way to meet new people and really learn about the history of the places you are visiting. I found myself walking for hours each day without even thinking about it. It rained in Barcelona on our first day which didn't stop us from running around the centre and soaking up all of the incredible works of Gaudi and the beautiful architecture that fills the city.

Tomorrow morning I head to Positano on the Amalfi Coast as reccomended by Abbie for some rest & relaxation! Hopefully the sunshine and beach gets rid of my sickness!
