I visited the Santa Monica Farmers Market on Wednesday morning before quickly jumping on a flight to New York. What a fresh, sunny morning filled with kind hearted locals and incredible colour and produce. In this case, my photos speak louder than words. I (daringly) opened my mouth to chat to some locals about where their produce came from and what their favourites were and of course to be asked back if I was from a. Spain, b. South Africa or c. London.
Despite the always lack of international recognition of the Australian accent in the United States, I was lucky enough to be treated to fresh oranges and pears from the kindest, yet most sorry market stall holders.
Luckily flying on a domestic flight, I purchased punnets ased berries and fruit to take with me on the plane and was a very happy chap when the fight attendants brought around the pie, only to pull out a Whole Foods bag of raw coconut bars and fresh of berries.
I can't wait to get back to the California Sun next week and hopefully am able to have a play with their great selection of produce in the kitchen.
The markets are held on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays with some of the local restaurants even setting up stalls and selling menu tasters. I love the excitement and friendly vibe down at this market and was especially excited to see so many of my favourite Los Angeles chefs fill my Instagram feed with the very photogenic market later in the day.
